Surgical Techniques
PECTORAL ETCHING
Pectoral etching is performed as an outpatient procedure with the patient under general anesthesia. Dr. Nachbar will begin the procedure by using a small cannula to remove excess fat surrounding the pectoral muscles. The entire procedure can have a duration of about 1 – 2 hours, and it works best when there is already some pectoral muscle present but hidden.
PECTORAL IMPLANTS
Prior to an implant procedure, Dr. Nachbar will meet with you to determine the best size and shape to achieve the desired look.
The actual procedure will be performed under general anesthesia and is performed endoscopically to minimize scarring. A small incision is made near the armpit and then the implant is inserted through the incision and put into position by Dr. Nachbar. He will close the incision with sutures.

What to Expect
While etching, like other liposuction, produces only mild tenderness, placement of a pectoral implant, which goes underneath the pectoral muscle between that muscle and the ribcage, generally causes more discomfort for several days. Patients concerned about the discomfort associated with pectoral implant placement may consider using EXPAREL®, a long-lasting anesthetic that will last for three or four day to reduce the discomfort.
